Ratings System

My ratings system is based on a 5 point system. 5 being the best and 1 being the worst. The rating system is called Fishy Wishys.
An example of a review would be 5 Fishy Wishys for an excellent product.

Vacation Fishing

After not having much luck this summer. I went on vacation in another part of the state. They don't appear to be having as much trouble with the smoke as we've had. This area near Jackson Hole also appears to be in better shape with their water situation. Around Laramie we are really low in all of our rivers. This little creek appeared full of water and fish.

This is the fish Sara caught. I think it was some kind of Cut Throat hi-brid. It had some cut throat features, but some just didn't fit the picture in the Wyoming fishing guide that the Game and Fish put out. It's kinda sad that it's been so long since I've seen a Cut Throat, but they just aren't in are area like they used to be when I was a kid.

The pictures here where taken with my new case for my iPhone. The brand is called Lifeproof. It allows me to take pictures completely submerged. The top and bottom pictures were taken with my fish still on the line. You can see the marking in the top two that appear to indicate a Cut Throat. I was smart enough to go into town after not having much luck the first day. The guy at the fly store in Afton was nice enough to tell me what they would bite on. He was right. If your ever in Afton it's right under the horn arch in the middle of town. They have a surprisingly large amount flies and other supplies. I forgot leads, and the guy showed me how to make them last longer. I thought that was really cool of him. I give this store a 5 fishy wishys. I also give my Lifeproof case a full 5 fishy wishy rating. It worked way better then I ever expected.

There will be more pictures coming, but class starts soon. I will be pretty busy. I will need a brief distraction. This blogging stuff provides the perfect distraction.

Thanks guys and I promise they is more to come!

Fished a Little

Today I managed to get up to the pond near my house. It has some good beaver dams. I got my fly stroke down by the end. I only caught one though. It was fun. I think I'll have to go again this week. Summer classes have been brutal. Diplomacy has been really fun. Id give up another 3 weeks for that class any day.

Graduation

Well finishing fans last night I was awarded my diploma. (I actually earned this one last fall but the only award them in the spring). My sister and I both received our associates degrees last night. Not bad for a couple of high school drop outs. It is a big first step but for me it is only that. A first step in the right direction.

I am truly blessed to have such a great family supporting me in this endeavor. With a little luck and a lot more hard work I'll be graduating again next spring with my bachelors degree.

Who Loves Brooky's?

I know I do.

My grandpa and myself spent all day Saturday fishing in our favorite spot. We fished, we ate, and we had a blast!

We got out to our spot about mid morning and commenced to fishing. We'd planned to fly fish but decided to go ahead and use the worms we brought (just in case) instead. I tried a few holes before I found a choice little beaver dam. Once I got a bite I knew I'd just stay there and slay em as long as a could.

I only moved about 10 feet in either direction once I found this spot. By about 11am I'd caught my limit. 16 Brook Trout in a little over 2 hours. Once I got the 16th fish I went looking for my grandpa to see how he'd done. I found him and he was a little disappointed. Saying he'd only caught a few. He then asked me how I'd done. That's when I showed him my conquest.

I'd out fished him for the first time since I was a kid. He was pretty proud. We took some pictures of the fish and then we proceeded to cook our catch. We included some potatoes and onions and a jalapeƱo. (For those of you who've never ate their catch at the same spot they caught them. I highly recommend this experience. It makes you feel real great when your lunch depends on your own skills.) Needless to say this was an amazing lunch.

After lunch I handed over my spot to my grandpa and I proceeded to catch a few more on flies. I used the flies the old man had made for me. It took me a while to get the hang of fly fishing after a long winter, but I soon figured it out. I caught a couple more and went to check on the old man. He'd also had better luck.

By then It was 4pm and we were both getting tired. So we cleaned em and headed home. It was a great day. I'm now ready to get some big ones on my tube! Just need the weather to get a little warmer.

Final's Week

For those of you who don't know. I went back to school a couple years ago. I got my associates degree  from Western Wyoming Community College, and I have since been accepted to the University of Wyoming. This was my first semester at UW. This is also my first final's week. I won't have any fishing posts up until after I get my tests done.

Come on 4.0!

Twin Buttes Lake

This is the lake I fished at today. I had one good bite, but I didn't get him. Oh well better luck next time huh.

It was actually kind of a funny experience. I'd spent most of the day looking for a place to fish that there wasn't already a ton of people. I drove to my usual spot and it was packed, so I started to make my way out of town. I didn't realize that most of the Laramie River outside of town is on private land without a whole lot of access for your average fisherman. I then went to another spot and that was full too. I finally decided to get way out of town, but that didn't work either.

I tried to find Lake Owen. I must drove right by it. By this time I was done. I started to drive back home when I seen a sign for the Laramie Plains Lakes. That's when I found this little gem.

3rd cast I got a bite. About half way through bringing him in I realized that I didn't want my trip to be over yet. It was at this point that I started to slow my retrieval down. Then I lost my fish. I didn't get another bite the whole time. I could kick myself for losing him. I guess it's not always about the destination, it's about the journey. I had a blast finding this lakes either way.
